ALEO National

The Association of Local Energy Officers (ALEO) is informed by the vast experience of members. Improving the lives of UK households is at the heart of everything ALEO does. ALEO members have helped thousands of households to achieve more affordable warmth and reduce carbon emissions.

We envisage a world where everyone is able to live in warm, energy efficient home with minimum carbon impact.

ALEO has been at the forefront of significant social impact for over 20 years. We invite you to be part of this change. Join our community. Together we will unite people and ideas to resolve the challenges of our time.

The Association of Local Energy Officers (ALEO) is a registered charity in England and Wales (charity number: 1194052) supporting local government officers with a remit for reducing all aspects of the UK’s domestic-sector carbon footprint and tackling fuel poverty.

ALEO is supported by the ALEO National Secretariat which also maintains this website. If you have any suggestions for news items, events, documents that you would like us to post on this site, or any other comments or suggestions, please let us know by emailing aleo@actonenergy.org.uk

Please also feel free to post your comments, questions and experiences related to domestic energy efficiency, fuel poverty and climate change on the ALEO online discussion forums.

Households are at the heart of ALEO and we support the public by:

* Access to consistent and quality advice and information
* Work with local government to support access to funding
* Feed into consultations to ensure equitable delivery of policy
* Provision of access to consistent quality advice and information enabling consumers to make informed choices
* Work with national government to secure funding streams for the public
* Increase carbon efficiency and decrease energy use through delivery of retrofit

Over the next three years ALEO aims to:
* Develop a more public facing website empowering consumers to make informed choices regarding their energy use
* Work with local and national government to ensure consumers are empowered to make informed choices
* Influence policy changes to ensure equitable access to funding
* Promote and support understanding of retrofit whole house approach
* Provide a framework to enable households to access quality information and advice
* Work with local government to support consumers to access funding for carbon efficient energy saving measures for their home

ALEO and CAN Regional Networks and Meetings
Each region of England and Wales has its own Network (known either as ALEO or CAN, depending upon the region), as well as its own pages on this website. Email news and updates are distributed to members by the regional secretariats and regular forum meetings are also held in each of the ALEO/CAN regions. Please click on your region name, in the top-right menu, to visit the site for the region in which you are based, or visit the regions page for a clickable map.

Membership
Please use the form at the bottom right of this page to enquire about joining your regional Network or to enquire about membership of ALEO at a national level if your organisation is not based in a particular region. Membership terms vary depending on the region, but membership is generally open to employees of local authorities, housing associations and charities with an interest in domestic energy efficiency, fuel poverty or climate change, with associate membership also available to private sector employees and other interested parties in most regions.

As of 2 February 2016, the Carbon Action Network changed its national identity to the Association of Local Energy Officers (ALEO). For more information, please see: www.aleo.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=744. Prior to 2009, ALEO was known as the Home Energy Conservation Association (HECA)
