BEIS annual fuel poverty statistics report and experimental sub-regional fuel poverty statistics

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) published its annual fuel poverty statistics report on 29 June 2017, giving the number of households living in fuel poverty in England, analysis of the composition of the fuel poor group in 2015 and projections of the number of households in fuel poverty in 2016 and 2017.

Experimental sub-regional fuel poverty statistics were also published, giving the number and proportion of households that are fuel poor in local authorities, lower super outputs areas (LSOA), parliamentary constituencies, counties and regions.

The report gives the headline fuel poverty figures for 2015 as:

Average fuel poverty gap £353
A decrease of 5.6 per cent in real terms from 2014 and continues the steady downward trend seen since 2013

Aggregate fuel poverty gap £884 million
A decrease of 0.5 per cent in real terms from 2014

Proportion of households in fuel poverty 11.0 per cent
An increase of 0.4 percent from 2014

The report also includes further explanation of the headline fuel poverty statistics, infographics, projections and further breakdown by:
- Dwelling characteristics (e.g. energy efficiency, wall type, floor area, fuel type, geographical location etc.)
- Household characteristics (tenure, composition, age, income, working status, payment method etc.)
