A personal invitation: How do towns and cities respond to a climate emergency? Join us on February 13th 4-5.30pm, Lambeth Town Hall
Full description of misc:
We have less than 2,500 working days to turn around our carbon emissions. Come and find out how Ashden is supporting towns and cities to take radical climate action and improve people’s lives at the launch of our 31 evidence-based actions tool. This tool, developed together with Friends of the Earth, quantifies the costs and carbon savings associated with each of the actions based on evidence from our winners and other pioneers.
Ashden’s approach to climate action emphasises the co-benefits – we know that by delivering warmer housing, new job opportunities and better health, councils can bring their residents with them as they embark on the transition to low carbon. So each of the 31 actions is rated against the co-benefits they deliver.
We’re holding a workshop for local authority officers tasked with delivering climate emergency plans on February 13th 4 – 5.30pm at Lambeth Town Hall.
The event will kick-off with short presentations from:
• Simon Brammer, Cities Team at Ashden;
• Mike Childs, Friends of the Earth and
• Martin O’Brien, Head of Climate Resilience, Lewisham Council and Chair of the Association of Local Energy Officers.
The workshop will be a chance for participants to share their experience and best practice around developing their climate emergency plans, and will address topics such as:
• How do you take citizens with you on this journey and gain their support?
• How can councils maximise the opportunity to improve people’s lives whilst driving emissions down?
• How do you prioritise the actions to take?
You are also invited to join us after the workshop for drinks as part of a larger ‘Ashden after Work’ event, where we will hear from Helen Hayes MP and Cllr Claire Holland, Deputy Leader at Lambeth Council and continue the conversation (6-8pm, same venue).
