Fuel banks pilot scheme

A three-month "fuel bank" voucher pilot scheme, has been announced, which will be run in sixteen locations in County Durham and Kingston-upon-Thames.
The fuel banks will be placed in existing food banks and will provide a free £49 voucher for families identified as being in crisis by care professionals, such as Citizens Advice Bureaus, GPs, social workers or police.
The scheme is being run by nPower and poverty charities including the food bank network Trussell Trust, National Energy Action and Durham Christian Partnership, although Vouchers will also be available to non npower customers.
